A useful 3D workbench is added to Minecraft by the Visual Workbench Mod. In essence, it doesn't introduce anything very novel; it merely makes objects that are positioned in the block's crafting slots visible, which is aesthetically beautiful. You can leave items in the slots and see them; they won't vanish. It looks great and is a perfect fit for servers.
